Whitney Winston is the Director of Camp in the Community, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free, high-quality summer day camp experiences for children in underserved communities across East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. With a deep commitment to equity, community partnership, and child development, Whitney leads Camp in the Community’s vision to remove barriers to enrichment, connection, and joy for families who might otherwise be left out.

Under Whitney’s leadership, Camp in the Community partners with local churches, nonprofits, and community organizations to bring camp directly into neighborhoods—creating safe, welcoming spaces where children can play, learn, build confidence, and experience belonging. The program intentionally serves communities facing economic hardship, food insecurity, and limited access to summer resources, with a strong emphasis on relationship-building and long-term community impact.

Whitney is also passionate about developing young leaders. Through Camp in the Community’s Junior Counselor and leadership programs, she has helped create meaningful job and mentorship opportunities for high school students from the same communities the camps serve, fostering leadership skills, responsibility, and confidence.

Known for her collaborative leadership style, Whitney brings together partners, donors, staff, and volunteers around a shared mission of caring for children and strengthening communities. Her work is grounded in the belief that every child deserves access to safe, joyful experiences—and that community-centered solutions can create lasting change.
