Derek Warburton is an international media entrepreneur, publisher, and creative director known for building influential media platforms rooted in culture, community, and purpose-driven storytelling. His work centers on amplifying voices, fostering connection, and turning meaningful stories into lasting impact.
He is the Founder and Publisher of Gurus Media, a community-driven media ecosystem connecting brands, visionaries, and changemakers with audiences that value authenticity and influence. Through Gurus Media, partners gain access to a portfolio of publications including Gurus Magazine, Mr. Warburton Magazine, Los Angeles Inquisitor, and Beauty Guru Magazine allowing stories to expand organically across platforms and create high-impact touchpoints.
At the heart of the network is Gurus Magazine, a culture-forward publication spotlighting leaders shaping today’s social, creative, and philanthropic landscape. Known for its editorial integrity and impact-driven storytelling, Gurus bridges celebrity, advocacy, and community—elevating voices that shift narratives and inspire action.
Derek is also the Publisher of Mr. Warburton Magazine, founded in 2019. Previously, he was Partner and Creative Director of LaPalme Magazine, which he successfully relaunched in 2016.
His career spans fashion, media, and brand partnerships, including Creative Director for Macy’s Northeast Tour, Style Ambassador for Spiegel, Newport News, and Nolcha Runway Shows (NYFW), and Brand Ambassador for Lancôme, Old Navy, ASICS, Jos. A. Bank, Borghese, Go Smile, Kmart, and Charmin. As a stylist, he has worked with Jessica Alba, Miranda Kerr, Ariel Winter, Sean Paul, and Anne Heche. He has also contributed to Maxim, Ocean Drive South China Post, and West-East Magazine (Hong Kong).
A recognized media voice, Derek has appeared on EXTRA, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, Dateline, Good Day New York, and HuffPost Live. Along with receiving 2 “Style Icon” awards in 2022 and 2024, he was named to The Daily Front Row’s “Who’s Who in Fashion Media.”
Beyond media, Derek is deeply committed to community advocacy. Drawing from his journey overcoming homelessness and abuse, he speaks globally on resilience and empowerment. In 2009, he founded the “How to Be Derek Fabulous” Workshop at New York’s Bottomless Closet. In 2022, he launched DEREK FABULOUS x FACE Stockholm, benefiting GLSEN.
