Powhatan Public Safety Communications Department
Did you know that 911 Telecommunicators handle tens of thousands of emergency and non-emergency calls each year? These dedicated professionals serve as the critical link between the public and emergency responders-calmly gathering vital information and dispatching help when it matters most.
Powhatan Public Safety Communications Department provides dispatch services for the Sheriffs Office , Fire Department, Rescue Squad and Animal Control in Powhatan County, VA. In addition, we regularly coordinate with the Virginia State Police and other surrounding agencies.
Over the past two years, we have experienced growth and progress. Staffing levels continue to improve, and we are proud of the professionalism and dedication our Telecommunicators demonstrate every day.
We are preparing to celebrate National Telecommunicator Week, April 12-18, 2026, and we are on a mission to show our Telecommunicators just how much they are appreciated and supported. To help make this week special, we are reaching out to different organizations and businesses to request support through in-kind donations.
