I actively work to reduce social isolation by creating opportunities for residents to build friendships, remain active, and stay connected to their community. I identify residents who may be isolated through wellness checks, conversations, referrals from staff, and observation of changes in participation or behavior.
To encourage engagement, I personally invite residents to participate in a variety of activities, including bingo, chair exercises, fitness challenges, arts and crafts, holiday celebrations, educational workshops, health fairs, game days, movie afternoons, potlucks, music programs, and community outings. I also partner with local organizations to provide presentations on health, safety, nutrition, dementia awareness, emergency preparedness, and other topics that benefit older adults.
To increase participation, I solicit donations from businesses, nonprofits, and community partners for bingo prizes, raffle items, gift cards, hygiene products, snacks, seasonal gifts, and event supplies. Residents earn opportunities to win prizes by attending activities, which helps motivate participation while creating a fun and welcoming environment. I also organize monthly raffles and special event giveaways to recognize consistent involvement.
