South Carolina Mock Trial is a student-run, competitive program dedicated to preparing the next generation of legal professionals, advocates, and leaders through hands-on courtroom experience. Each year, our members work with a case provided by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), developing comprehensive strategies for both the prosecution/plaintiff and defense sides of the case.
Throughout the season, students take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses, learning how to analyze evidence, construct compelling case theories, conduct direct and cross-examinations, and deliver persuasive opening statements and closing arguments. Teams then put months of preparation into practice by competing in simulated trials against other universities.
Beyond competition, South Carolina Mock Trial provides students with an opportunity to develop skills that extend far beyond the courtroom. Members strengthen their public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, legal analysis, and ability to communicate effectively under pressure. The organization brings together ambitious students from a variety of academic backgrounds who share an interest in advocacy, competition, and professional development.
Most importantly, South Carolina Mock Trial creates a community where students can challenge themselves, build lasting relationships, and gain meaningful experience that prepares them for law school, future careers, and leadership beyond the University of South Carolina.
