Viet Rainbow of Orange County (VROC)
Buena Park, CA, USA
Viet Rainbow of Orange County (VROC) strives to create a world where everyone has the resources and agency to thrive with dignity.
Our story began in 2013 when a group of five (LGBTQ) Vietnamese American individuals were barred from participating in the annual Tet (Lunar New Year) Parade, with the parade organizers stated, being “LGBT is not part of Vietnamese culture.” In response to the Tet parade exclusion, LGBTQ Vietnamese youth and Vietnamese mothers of LGBTQ children organized for inclusion and formed VROC.
Today, VROC uplifts the different multiple intersectional identities that queer, trans Vietnamese Americans have, as well as the issues that they may face because of them.
We are grounded in values of equity, healing, joy, and social justice. We primarily work with LGBTQ+ Vietnamese Americans and their loved ones through research, education, and advocacy, while also strengthening collective power alongside other communities working towards liberation.
We are fiscally sponsored by Charitable Ventures.
